Department-free by design and unique in its scope and organization in Turkey, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is an interdisciplinary home to degree programs that range from visual arts and visual communication design to cultural studies, social and political studies through conflict analysis and resolution, economics and history. Just passed a decade since the admission of its first students, FASS has become a leading institution of research and education in this part of the globe. It has alumni in the elite of the academic and business world, PhD students with papers in top academic journals before their dissertation defense, exchange programs with leading academic institutions, a successful record of international applications to graduate programs as well as European Union grants in Marie-Curie Reintegration and sixth/seventh framework projects.
The most important indicators of the performance of a higher education institution are the quality, satisfaction and performance of its students and alumni. We interact in small classes, we promote quality and student research and we award instructors who incorporate research into their teaching. We are committed to innovation and highest ethical standards in teaching and research, to challenge and inspire our community, to revise and develop theoretically and practically rigorous program curricula and sustaining the productive working relations that cultivate a vibrant intellectual community. In research publications we seek the top international outlets. We consider selective internationalization an important strategy in the pursuit of these objectives.
We believe by far the most important determinant of a successful academic institution is its human resources. Accordingly, maintaining and upgrading our human resources is our primary and all-terms objective. We benefit from the excellent technological and administrative infrastructure of Sabancı University, which as a young institution is relatively advanced on its path to establish a strong tradition of promoting interdisciplinary research and education, at all levels. You will find strong indices of interdisciplinarity in our degree programs, in the courses we offer as well as the faculty profiles. We still have a distance ahead to reach our goal of becoming a reputable player in the international academic scene. Creating and developing together, we believe we shall be there in a short period of time.
