Mevhibe Ateş Graphic Design Student Competition

FASS organizes annual graphic design competition for undergraduate students. 

Each entry is limited to 3 Poster designs. All submitted works are evaluated by the jury according to the criteria below:

  • Strategic analysis of the given theme
  • Creativity and originality of the approach
  • Success of the typographic and iconographic analysis used in visual design

Poster Format

Visual material sent through e-mail should be in JPEG and RGB format, the longer side should be limited to 1918 pixels, the shorter side to 1417 pixels.

Following the announcement of the results, the three prize winners will be asked to submit their works in PDF format, with size 50cm x 70cm, 200 dpi resolution, CMYK format.

The theme of the 2013 poster competition is “Refugee Lives”.

Prizes
Mevhibe Ateş Graphic Design Student Competition awards three prizes: 1000 TL to the winner, 750 TL to the second and 500 TL to the third. As the competition is organized to support the “No Home, No Voice” student project, participants acknowledge that selected works will be displayed in public spaces within the project framework.

Evaluation
 The submissions will be evaluated according to the criteria below:

  • Strategic analysis of the given theme
  • Creativity and originality of the approach
  • Success of the typographic and iconographic analysis used in visual design

Savaş Çekiç (Marmara Üniversitesi) / Ömer Durmaz (Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi) / Onur Yazıcıgil (Sabancı Üniversitesi)

Participation
The competition is open to all third and fourth year students of Arts faculties of universities in Turkey.

Poster Format
Participants should submit their works in PDF format, vertical, with size 50cm x 70cm, 200 dpi resolution, CMYK format.

E-mail submission
PDF files of works should be submitted by April 26, 2013, under a nickname (with numbers like 1, 2, 3 next to the same nickname for multiple entries) to mevhibeates@sabanciuniv.edu
 
The e-mail should include:
Subject line: Mevhibe Ateş Graphic Design Student Competition 2013 / Attachment: The poster design file/s given a nickname and prepared as explained above

E-mail text: Personal information about the participant:
1- University / 2- Faculty and year of study / 3- Name and last name / 4- Address and telephone number
 
Submitted works will be sent to the jury as PDF files, therefore file names should not contain/reveal any information about the submitting designer. Any entries not complying with this rule will not be taken into consideration.

Each entry is limited to 3 Poster designs. All submitted works will be evaluated by the jury on April 27-29 in closed sessions. Results and the selected works to be displayed will be announced at http://aafon.org on April 30.

The competition in 2012 was on the theme "Social Justice: Is Another World Possible?"

Creative Brief: Social justice / utopia

Corruption and injustice observed in relations of politics, production, and welfare distribution continue to cause profound crises, suffering, and rebellion in several countries and regions all over the world. Becoming increasingly more active with the help of technological advances, social networks have created an opportunity for larger masses to express their reaction in a faster and more decided manner in the face of accelerating political and financial crisis in 2011. Beyond the Arabic Spring and the protests and demonstrations in Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Wall Street, other questions emerge such as “is another world possible?” and “what is your utopia?”.

The submissions for the 2012 awards were evaluated according to the criteria below:

The competition in 2011 was on the theme " Freedom of Faith"

Creative Brief: Freedom of Faith

Belief or unbelief in a transcendent and absolute power or powers, shaping individual world views and life styles accordingly, being able to make personal choices freely regarding the “correct, good and beautiful” are among fundamental civil rights in democratic societies. These rights, when practiced in the public sphere, bring along responsibilities. In this context, issues such as toleration, aggressive proselytization, positive and negative discrimination based on faith especially in public opportunities and services, and organization of education come to mind.
