Position: Six Post-Doctoral Researchers (One year, renewable, non-tenure track position).

The Centre for European Studies (CES) was recently awarded by the European Commission a substantial grant to upgrade its institutional capacity to be the only “center of excellence” in Turkey in its respective areas of specialisation. The project is designed to promote the comparative research capacity of the CES on the interrelated questions of comprehensive security and governance. The CES intends to achieve this strategic objective by providing a conducive environment for young researchers, strengthening its existing links with the leading research institutions of Europe, establishing new links with others and upgrading its institutional structure. Within the framework of this program, the CES aims to recruit six researchers for varying periods of 24 to 30 months.
The Center for European Studies (CES), founded in 1997, established itself as one of the leading centres in the field of European studies in Turkey by its Master’s programme started in 2001 as well as with its certificate programmes conducted with the co-operation of several European universities. The CES has contributed extensively to the ongoing debate on European integration and enlargement, serving as a focal point for both local and international academics and students providing a venue for the meeting of a variety of research interests, disciplinary approaches and backgrounds. The CES has developed close dialogue with the national policy-making bodies, institutions, think tanks, and non-governmental organisations while acting as an efficient link between scholars, practitioners and civil society.
Qualifications:
In correspondence with the interdisciplinary structure of the Center, the candidates from various disciplines of social sciences such as Political Science, International Relations, Sociology Economics and Law (particularly the European law) are encouraged to apply.
The Candidates should be oriented to integrate conceptual issues within a comparative perspective comprising different regional contexts. A basic knowledge of the economic and political developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, Balkans and the Black Sea regions is required so as to focus upon issues of governance, democratization and comprehensive security.
The Candidates are expected to develop and work on research projects within the framework programs of the European Commission in the fields of specialization indicated below. The ability to work within a team is crucial.
Specialization in, at least one of the following areas is required:
- European Neighborhood policy
- Cross-border issues such as migration, water and energy in the context of above-mentioned regions.
- Conflict resolution
- Politics of Culture and Identity
- Administrative Restructuring, Institutional and Legal aspects of the European Union
- Political Economy of European Integration and Enlargement
- Quantitative methods in economic analysis
In addition to one of the major European languages, knowing another major regional language such as Arabic and Russian will be an asset. The candidates should be Turkish citizens and below 35.
