Theatre of Dance's Drawing

Theatre of Dance's Drawing
Sabanci University students took part in FETA Festival in Gdansk, Poland on 15th and 16th July.
One of the professors from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Wieslaw Zaremba is a former professor of the Fine Arts Academy in Gdansk. He was the head of the Drawing Studio. Now he co-operates with the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Art Gallery "Nowa Oficyna" in Gdansk and the International Street Theatre Festival FETA.

In his Istanbul based workshop the Theatre of Dance's Drawing was born. Under his direction he has gathered young artists who love the tradition of their people, expressed by music, theatre and dance. They create their interpretation through the new medias, bibliographical study and ritual observation.

The students also work on the body language and face expressions, possessing such different meanings in various cultures. Analyzing it through the art of drawing will be the main motive of this year's presentation.

Students from the Sabanci University were first seen in Poland during FETA 2003.

"HADIGIDELIM"

Concept and Director: Wieslaw Zaremba, Dance: Gizem Tokgöz, Assisting: Deniz Erk

Drawing: Ferhunde Alkan, Egemen Demirci, Zeynep Kansak, Basar Önal, Selin Özçelik, Irem Soyak, Burcu Kinay

Traditional Turkish theatre of shadows Karagoz was an inspiration for this year's presentation show. The plays were channels of popular criticism in the ages of political and economic confusion. Yet they have their moral and even spiritual side that is so present today!

In today's version our most basic emotions like happiness, sadness or despair, are presented by ballerina's movements, drawing and video projections.
