Abstract
In this presentation I will discuss the organizational cultural challenges that occur in complex peace operations. These challenges are becoming increasingly complex as new models of peace operations develop. One such model is that of ‘hybrid’ operations in which the United Nations and national missions occur side-by-side or in sequence. I will consider the challenges of the new models in relation to the structure of ‘traditional’ peacekeeping and explore how the symbolic and political dimensions of that earlier model are relevant to designing operations and trainings today.
