New Faculty: Asuman Büyükcan Tetik (Psychology)

Asuman Büyükcan Tetik received her master’s degree in Social and Organizational Psychology from Koç University in 2011. In her master's thesis under the supervision of Prof. Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı, she investigated the dimensions of marital commitment among Turkish women and the effect of socioeconomic status on these dimensions. Afterwards, Asuman was awarded by a grant from Nuffic (Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education) for her PhD degree at the VU University Amsterdam. Between 2012 and 2015, Asuman worked with Prof. Catrin Finkenauer in the Department of Clinical Child and Family Studies as a PhD student. During her PhD, Asuman also worked with Prof. Lorne Campbell as a guest researcher at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Asuman’s research combines and integrates social, clinical, and developmental psychology. Broadly, her studies focus on psychological wellbeing (e.g., life satisfaction, relationship satisfaction). Her research aims to contribute to the research on psychological wellbeing with a focus on individual differences (e.g., self-control), relationships (e.g., interpersonal and family relationships), and life events (e.g., child loss). Thanks to her interdisciplinary orientation, Asuman had the opportunity to collaborate with international researchers from different fields (e.g., social psychology, clinical and health psychology, marketing research, communication science, educational neuroscience). Asuman also has a keen interest in advanced statistical methods. She has knowledge in and experience with conducting multilevel, longitudinal, and structural equation modeling analyses. Due to this knowledge, Asuman gave a workshop on longitudinal data analysis at Koç University in 2015. She also received several grants during her PhD from different sources (e.g., talent fund of VU University Amsterdam, travel grant of European Association of Social Psychology). Asuman started working at Sabanci University in February, 2016. Currently, she is teaching Social Psychology.
