"Becoming a 'Terrorist': State, Sovereignty, and Law from Below"

Deniz Yonucu is a Ph.D. Candidate in Social Anthropology at Cornell University. She holds two master's degrees in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and in Sociology from Boğaziçi University. She spent the academic year 2008-2009 in the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University. Her previous work focused on the criminalization and marginalization of the working class in Istanbul and she published a number of articles related to this research. Her current research is designed to offer a contribution to current intellectual debates on the complex relationship between law, sovereignty, and violence and/or terror.
