Laura Mulvey is a feminist theorist, film director, and a professor of Film and Media studies at Birkbeck College, the University of London. From 1974 to 1982, she directed, with Peter Wollen, six films engaging with feminist theory, semiotics, psychoanalysis, and leftist politics: Penthesilea: Queen of the Amazons (1974), Riddles of the Sphinx (1977), AMY! (1980), Crystal Gazing (1982), Frida Kahlo and Tina Modotti (1982), and The Bad Sister (1982).
Mulvey is the author of numerous books and articles, including Visual and Other Pleasures (1989), Citizen Kane (1992), Fetishism and Curiosity (1996) and Death 24x a Second: Stillness and the Moving Image (2006).
