A Reassessment of Berlin Congress and its Aftermath: Ottoman Perspective (1878-1880)

Abstract

The presentation tries to investigate Ottoman relations with the European Powers as they developed between 1878 and 1880. The emphasis however is on the Berlin Congress and its immediate aftermath. With the assistance of the Ottoman primary sources, mainly the Foreign Ministerial archives, the paper discusses the developments of the period and gives an insight on how Ottoman diplomatic establishment worked in the early years of the Hamidian period.
