Charles Csuri: Sketchbooks of Time (Kasa Gallery)
KASA Gallery, in collaboration with the Leonardo Electronic Almanac, The Ohio State University and Goldsmiths College, announces the exhibition: Charles Csuri: Sketchbooks of Time.
Charles Csuri’s new artworks, animations, drawings and early artworks will be exhibited as a survey of the artist’s career. Through a curatorial analysis of the relationship between the artist and the media (computer and software), the art is framed in a visual representation of the concept of time.
Charles Csuri has exhibited internationally throughout his artistic career, and in 2011 received the ACM SIGGRAPH Lifetime Achievement Award in Digital Art. The artist, a revered pioneer of computer art—his first digital computer artwork dates to 1963—has had an illustrious career. Today, Csuri’s art is held in private collections and major international museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Charles Csuri: Sketchbooks of Time will take place in Kasa Gallery in Istanbul from March 20, 2012 to May 10, 2012.
The exhibition is an international curatorial partnership with Senior Curators Lanfranco Aceti, (Kasa Gallery Director, Sabanci University) and Christiane Paul, (The New School and the Whitney Museum of American Art); Curator Janice Glowski (Wittenberg University) and In House Curator, Ozden Sahin (Sabanci University).
“It is a pleasure for me to organize the exhibition in Istanbul of someone who has shaped the development of computer and digital art with a visionary approach and has been the pioneer of contemporary new media and digital arts,” said Lanfranco Aceti, Kasa Gallery Director. “This has been an important partnership that sees the contribution of a range of institutions that Kasa Gallery is proud to be collaborating with.”
