ABSTRACT
Most of literature on Islamic approaches to peace and war carried out by
Muslim scholars is focused on conditions to engage in defensive wars, and a
great deal of literature written about Islam by western scholars has been
focused on sources of violence and exclusion in Islam. Few studies have
explored the sources of peace and nonviolence in Islamic values, history, and
tradition.
This lecture will discuss the possibilities of developing nonviolent framework
based on Islamic religious and cultural sources and explore practical ways of
applying these methods of nonviolence in political and social contexts.
Obstacles and challenges facing Muslims practitioners of peace and nonviolence
will be explored too.
