The "Institutions and Economic Performance" Programme of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) (co-directors Erik Berglöf and Gérard Roland) is organizing jointly with the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD, Harvard University) (Chair, Tim Besley) and Sabanci University an international conference on the theme "Institutions, Development and Transition" in Istanbul, June 17-19, 2005. CEPR has in the past jointly organized with the William Davidson Institute the "International Annual Conference on Transition Economies". This tenth conference reflects the new research orientation of the "Institutions and Economic Performance" Programme. The conference intends to create a forum for leading researchers to present new research on comparative institutions and development. There will also be a policy panel on June 17, 18.00, entitled "Turkey's Economic Outlook in the New Period: Macroeconomic and Institutional Perspectives" chaired by Hasan Ersel (Sabanci University), participating Süreyya Serdengeçti (governor, Central Bank of Turkey), Rifat Hisarciklioglu (president, Turkish Chambers Association), Refik Erzan (Bogazici University) and Izak Atiyas (Sabanci University). Conference activities are open to academics, scheduled at the Marmara Pera Otel at Tepebasi (June 17 and 19) and Sabanci University campus (June 18).
