YOKO ONO 'Open City' Exhibition at Kasa Gallery

Yoko
Ono’s first exhibition in Turkey is at Kasa Galeri from 2nd May.

Artist,
poet, musician, peace activist...Yoko Ono is in Turkey.

Yoko Ono’s exhibition titled “Open City”
will meet its visitors with nine installation pieces starting on 2nd May. Installations with the motives she
often used such as ‘water’,’sky’, ‘nature’ and the ‘peace’ theme,  are still reflecting the attitude of Fluxus
movement of which Ono was a founder member in early 1960s. The show sponsored
by Garanti Bankası will be open until 30th June.

“World’s
most famous unknown artist”

Perhaps the most striking account on Yoko
Ono, who is an active participant of the contemporary art world into which she
entered in early 1960s and stayed as a popular figure with her experimental and
distinct projects, comes from her late husband John Lennon:  “World’s most famous unknown artist;
everyone knows her name but does not know what she does”

While providing Ono a vast
opportunity to disseminate her message of peace and love, of affirmation and
imagination, her marriage to Lennon and subsequent fame also overshadowed, for
decades, her accomplishments as an expansive interdisciplinary artist.

The first retrospective exhibition of Yoko
Ono who was a leading figure of Fluxus and Conceptual Art movements,
Have You Seen The Horizon Lately? openedin 1997 at  Oxford Modern Art Museum. Her first American retrospective which covered Ono’s work from 40
years “YES YOKO ONO” was opened in 2001 in New York and awarded as the best
museum show of the year.

Yoko Ono, who is regarded as an importatnt
activist on issues of peace and human rights since 1960s, seems to be keeping
her political and radical attitude. Ono awards an annual peace prize on her own
name since 2002.
