Graduate Student Paper / Artwork Award in Arts & Social Sciences
2024-2025
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences announces the Graduate Student Paper / Artwork Award in Arts & Social Sciences, which recognizes outstanding scholarly achievements among graduate students. The award aims to acknowledge and celebrate exceptional research, critical thinking, and innovation demonstrated by graduate students from all Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences programs and disciplines.
Eligibility
- All current full-time FASS graduate students (MA / MS/ PhD) are eligible for nomination.
- Students can be nominated for the following works:
- Papers published, accepted for publication, or submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals,
ii) Pre-prints or working papers archived in repositories such as SSRN, SocArXiv, PsyArXiv, etc.
ii) Artworks that are exhibited or invited for an exhibition in an art venue or bienal, or recognized for artistic achievement.
- Students must be nominated by a faculty member. Supervisors, course instructors, co-authors, etc. are all welcome to nominate.
- Nominations should be accompanied by a statement of significance from the nominating faculty member, highlighting the paper's / artwork’s originality, impact, and contribution to the field.
- For co-authored papers, the students’ lead contributor role should be evident. This is typically demonstrated by the first or corresponding author status. In papers where the student is not listed as the first or corresponding author (e.g., papers where authors are listed alphabetically), the statement of significance should explicitly affirm and clearly describe the nominees’ lead contributor role.
Nomination Process
- All full-time or visiting faculty members are invited to submit nominations.
- A faculty member can nominate only one student in a year.
- A student can be nominated by more than one faculty member. In such cases, the statement of significance should be co-signed by nominating faculty.
- Past awardees cannot be nominated again.
- The nomination package must include the following material:
(i) Copy of the nominated paper
(ii) Letter of acceptance (for in press papers), submission confirmation (for submitted papers), or archive URL (for preprints and working papers)
