Achievement of Our VAVCD Master’s Graduate, Eser Epözdemir

We are proud to share that our 2018 VAVCD Master’s graduate, Eser Epözdemir, has been invited to design the new award statuette for the Yapı Kredi Afife Theatre Awards—one of the most prestigious and longstanding traditions in Turkish theatre.

Reinterpreting the legacy of Afife Jale through a contemporary visual language, Epözdemir centered the design on a previously unused depiction of the artist. The work powerfully reflects her courage, aspirations, and the path she opened within the history of theatre.

The choice of materials also plays a significant role in the narrative. The contrast between chalcedony—named after Kadıköy, where Afife Jale first took the stage—and brass offers a symbolic reference to both the hardships of her life and the enduring nature of her legacy.

The new award statuette stands as a unique artistic interpretation of Afife Jale’s timeless courage and pioneering spirit.
