Venice Multidisciplinary World Conference on Republics and Republicanism

Sabancı University contributed to the international academic dialogue at the Venice Multidisciplinary World Conference on Republics and Republicanism, organized by Venice International University (VIU).

Held in Venice on June 26–28, 2026, the conference brought together scholars from around the world under the theme "Power, Freedom and Oligarchy."

Among the members of the conference's organizing committee was Banu Turnaoğlu Açan, a faculty member in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Sabancı University. Turnaoğlu Açan also presented a paper and chaired a conference session. Her contributions exemplified the international academic collaborations fostered through the Venice International University (VIU) Consortium, of which Sabancı University is a member.

The conference also reunited Philip Pettit and Banu Turnaoğlu Açan, both recipients of the 2023 Sakıp Sabancı International Research Awards, in Venice.
