How did your Political Science and International Relations education at SU contribute to your current position?
Sabancı University provided me with a strong theoretical foundation and critical thinking skills. Since the education system in Turkey is mostly based on rote learning, the critical perspective I gained here was very new to me. I learned how to approach academic articles with a questioning mindset. Additionally, preparing for term and year-end projects enhanced both my methodological knowledge and academic writing skills. This was one of my greatest advantages during my PhD and in securing my current research position.
What was your favorite course in Political Science at SU, and why?
I would say Methods and Comparative Politics. Both courses taught me to examine issues not only through ideas but also in a data-driven, systematic, and critical manner.
Did your relationship with your professors at SU continue after graduation?
Yes. For example, I am still in touch with my former advisor, Assoc. Prof. Mert Moral—we meet at international conferences, and I continue to consult with him on academic matters
4What would you say to a student who is considering but unsure about studying Political Science and International Relations?
I believe that the methodological and critical thinking skills you gain at Sabancı University will give you a strong advantage not only in academia but also in any field that values data and analysis. Moreover, for those aiming for an academic career abroad, Sabancı University offers an excellent preparation environment.
